We all love that fresh hair feeling and there’s nothing better than leaving the salon with a new ‘do! Whether you’ve decided to go blonde, brunette or even blue, we all want our new colour to look salon-fresh for as long as possible. While trips to the salon will always be a part of maintaining your colour, there are a few things you can do at home to help your locks stay healthy and vibrant. We’re here to share our essential tips for long-lasting colour!

Protect your hair when heat styling

Heat can strip away colour and hydration, leaving your hair feeling less than fabulous. It’s important to use a heat protecting product before styling your hair. This will help your hair to maintain moisture and prevent damage, which will also help to protect your hair colour.

Deep condition your hair

We like to say that healthy hair is happy hair. Healthy hair likes to hold onto and maintain it’s colour, as opposed to dry and damaged hair. Using a deep conditioning hair treatment once a week can really help to prevent this damage and keep your locks hydrated. Like we needed another excuse for a little self-pampering and relaxation!

Wash your hair less often

Most of us know that excessive washing can strip your hair of its natural oils but it can also lead to quicker colour fading. Shampoo can strip away the vibrant colour of your hair so try to stick to two-three washes per week. This will go a long way to really prolonging your new ‘do and maintaining healthy hair!

Use the right products

It’s all about the aftercare with colour treated hair and that’s why the products you choose to use are so important. We recommend investing in quality products that have been specifically created for use on colour treated hair. Colour protecting shampoos and conditioners are great for maintaining colour vibrancy and will help to extend the life of your colour.

Bring out the SPF

We all know that protecting our skin from the sun is essential but many of us neglect our hair when it comes to sun exposure. The same care should be taken with our locks and products containing UV protectors should become a staple in your haircare routine. Not only does the sun affect the health of our hair, it can also cause hair colour to fade more rapidly. Whatever the season, take care when you know you’ll be exposed to the sun for long periods of time.

Don’t skip trims

It might be tempting to skip the regular visits to the salon for a hair trim, especially to avoid trimming off colour, but keeping your hair healthy and thriving is essential when it comes to looking after your colour. It’s important to keep on top of dried or split ends in order to keep your colour treated hair looking and feeling it’s best!
