Most of us dream of having long, flowing locks but it often seems like it’ll be impossible to achieve. We know what it’s like to feel frustrated and like your hair is taking forever to grow even a little – trust us, we’ve all been there! Growing your hair does require some patience but there are a few easy tweaks you can make to your hair routine to help speed up the process. So if you feel like you’re follicaly challenged, listen up!
Skip on the daily shampooing
While it might be tempting to wash your hair every time you shower, leaving a few days between washes is actually much better for hair growth! Allowing 2-3 days between washes allows the hair’s natural oils to penetrate through and frequent washing can strip the hair of these oils, leaving it feeling dry and brittle. By cutting down on shampooing, your hair will be able to repair itself better and keep itself hydrated.
You are what you eat – or your hair is!
Your diet plays a key role in the overall health of your hair and making a few easy changes can help to promote hair growth even more. You can put all the expensive products in the world on your hair but if you have a poor quality diet, you’ll never see change. Foods that are rich in high quality proteins can do wonders for your locks as well as foods packed with omega-3 fatty acids, such as fish. Minerals such as zinc and iron also go a long way in keeping your hair healthy, as well as sufficient water intake. A nutrient dense diet is the key to shiny, long locks!
Take a break from heat styling
If you depend on your hair straightener like you’re BFFs, this might not be what you want to hear but we all know that excessive heat styling can really damage your hair. If you’re serious about growing you hair fast, using minimal heat styling tools can really help to boost that growth. If you must use heat, always use a heat protectant product and decrease the temperature as much as possible. Just think of all the cute up-dos you can try now!
Book in for regular trims
We know, we know, this might seem counterintuitive but hear us out! While trimming your hair obviously won’t make it grow, having healthy hair that is free of split ends is a must if you’re trying to achieve long locks. Dry and damaged ends will only lead to hair breakage and that certainly won’t help you grow your hair. We suggest booking in to see your hairdresser every four to six weeks in order to keep your hair in tiptop condition. Trust us, you will notice the difference!
Give yourself a scalp massage and oil treatment
You know that amazing scalp massage you get at the hair salon? That’s not just for your enjoyment! Massaging the scalp can promote blood flow and stimulate the hair follicles, helping to keep your hair shiny and healthy. Try tipping your head upside down and giving yourself a good five minute scalp massage a few times per week. In addition to this, using an oil-based treatment prior to shampooing can boost your strands full of fatty acids and then lock in hydration. Our tip – rinse your hair in cold water to keep the moisture in!
A satin pillowcase will be your best friend
Ditching the cotton pillowcase for a satin or silk one is a great way to boost hair growth. Satin is a lot softer than cotton and will be much more gentle on your hair and lead to less tangles. Sleeping with you hair in a soft plait can also keep it tangle free and reduce damage from friction.
