Let’s face it – our hair is a super important part of *any* look when it comes to a major event. Not only does it have the ability to make or break an entire outfit, it also has to have some serious staying power and (in some cases) the ability to be weather-proof. No matter if you are prepping for a wedding, a birthday celebration, or any event in between, there’s no denying just how important your hair prep is leading up to it. We’re here to give you our best tips and tricks when it comes to getting your hair ready for any special occasion.
The long game
If you’re thinking of trying a completely new cut and colour for your event, we totally get it. There’s nothing quite like debuting a new style on an occasion that’s already special. However, we generally recommend making a major hair change at least six months prior to the event. There’s nothing worse than experimenting with your hair too close to an event and realising it’s not quite what you wanted – leaving you with a serious case of BHD (bad hair day). Definitely not what you want for an important event!
Around six months before the event is the time to experiment with a new style. That way, you have plenty of time to make sure you love it, while also getting used to styling your new look. It leaves enough time to change your mind if it’s not what you want or to make any changes!
The freshen up
So, you’ve got the cut and colour you want – what now? Around two months before the big event is the time to get that colour freshened up and make any last changes to the style (we definitely suggest keeping these changes minimal!). This ensures your colour will be looking great on the day.
Let’s talk hair health
There’s no denying that healthy hair not only looks amazing, but it’s easier to style as well. If you have a major event coming up, now is the time to really focus on getting your hair in tip-top shape. It’s always a good idea to book a trim with your hairdresser in order to keep those ends in the best condition possible. We recommend getting a trim every six to eight weeks, especially in the lead-up to your event.
Hair feeling a little dry and lacklustre? Introducing a hair mask into your hair care routine can really boost those strands and ensure they are getting all the moisture they need. This is super important, especially if you’re going to be using heat to style your hair. It’s also a great time to make sure you’re drinking enough water and getting all the nutrients you can through your diet.
A few simple changes to your hair care routine and some planning in advance will go a long way in making sure you have the greatest hair day possible!
