At Koto Hair, we strive to do right by the planet by making eco-friendly choices and taking care when it comes to our impact on the environment. Being an eco-friendly salon has always been important to us, which is why we have partnered with Sustainable Salons Australia and can now recycle 95% of our waste – something we are incredibly proud of! We use the highest quality eco-friendly products, ensuring that everything we do is kind to the planet.
Not many of us might consider our hair routine when it comes to searching for a way to reduce our ecological footprint. So, we wanted to share with you some tips for going eco-friendly with your hair. Keep your locks luscious with minimal environmental disruption!
Cut back on your daily washing
Unsurprisingly, water waste from our hair routine can cause a major impact on the environment. If you shampoo and condition your hair daily or almost daily, this adds up to significant water usage. If you can, minimise the amount of times you wash your hair per week. Not only will you be reducing your water usage, you’ll also be doing something great for your hair – letting those natural hair oils do their thing!
Switch to cruelty-free
If you’re getting serious about switching to an eco-friendly hair care routine, it’s a great idea to invest in products that are cruelty-free. This means you are actively doing what you can to avoid participating in the process of animal testing.
Many cruelty-free and vegan hair products also do not contain harsh chemicals, meaning they have a lower environmental impact overall. They are able to keep more artificial materials from washing down the drain and into the ecosystem.
Cut the plastic where you can and always recycle
When it comes down to it, small changes add up to a big impact. Even something as simple as switching your plastic hairbrush to a wooden or bamboo one is a great way to minimise your plastic use. Not to mention, it’s better for your hair!
As for other hair care products, ensure you always recycle the empty bottles or, even better, opt for products that can be refilled. Look for biodegradable materials or, if you really want to commit to your sustainable hair routine, products that use zero plastic (such as shampoo and conditioner bars).
While ‘going green’ can seem overwhelming at first, being eco-friendly with your hair routine is more achievable than ever. The benefits far outweigh the effort you put in, not only in contributing to a healthier environment but the health of your locks as well. Start with a few new, easy habits and work your way up from there!
